A water action plan with emphasis on agricultural and industrial load to the groundwater and surface water system is being developed for the Piedmonte Region. The region covers an area of more than 25.000 km2.
In this context DHI - represented by INTECNO-DHI, its permanent Italian unit - and leading Italian water engineering companies have been contracted by "Regione Piemonte to establish an integrated surface water and groundwater model complex for the assessment of:
- Schemes for reorganization and/or rationalization of the water use in the region with a focus on the overall water management and water budget
- An overview of the total water consumption for various water use sectors
- A complete water balance for the region and various sub-catchments
- Detailed investigations of groundwater and surface interaction under various hydro geological and hydrological conditions
- Groundwater quality
Besides modeling activities DHI provide technical assistance in relation to agricultural practices and related water quality issues.
The integrated model complex is composed of the groundwater model MIKE SHE combined with MIKE BASIN for water balance studies on river basin scales.
