Merger between Danish Hydraulic Institute and VKI Institute for the Water Environment

We are pleased to announce to clients and collaboration partners that the boards of Danish Hydraulic Institute (DHI) and VKI Institute for the Water Environment have now decided to merge the two institutes.

The new institute, which will be named 'DHI Water & Environment' will start its operation on January 1, 2000. The central management group of the institute is:

    Asger Kej, Managing Director

    Jørn Rasmussen, Deputy Managing Director

    Peter Rasmussen, Finance Director

    Karsten Krogh Andersen, Director - Environmental Technology and Chemistry Division

    Jens Kirkegaard, Director - Marine Technology Division

    Karsten Havnø, Director - Water Resources Division

    Jacob Steen Møller, Director - Water Environment and Informatics Division

The merged institute will have almost 500 employees, approx. 75 of whom are employed in international subsidiaries and branch offices. The institute will see it as its mission to contribute to the development and dissemination of knowledge and tools related to oceanography and marine environment, water resources, ecology, environmental chemistry, marine structures and offshore technology, and water in industry and urban environment.

The core of the institute's activities will be specialised consultancy based on research and development in combination with the application and sales of front-end technologies (software and hardware). The institute will offer knowledge, specialised consultancy and technology within the following areas:

  • Water supply, urban sewer and storm drainage systems
  • Water and wastewater treatment
  • Chemical substances and products
  • Laboratory development and structure
  • Cleaner technologies
  • Emissions and waste products
  • Environmentally hazardous substances in water and soils

  • Monitoring of ecosystems
  • Water resources assessments
  • Integrated water resources management
  • Groundwater protection
  • Flood management and flood control
  • Rivers and hydraulic structures
  • Environmental impact assessment
  • Oceanography
  • Oil spill analyses and warning
  • Cooling water investigations
  • Integrated coastal zone management
  • Offshore constructions
  • Marine pipelines
  • Ports and coastal engineering
  • Coastal morphology and protection
  • Sediment analyses in ports and navigation channels

The merged institute will continue all existing business agreements and contractual obligations.
